Wagert lorry-mounted work platform enables rope inspection on the Elbe bridge in Niederwartha
Precise inspection thanks to our height access technology
On 22 October 2025, MDR SACHSENSPIEGEL reported on the regular main inspection of the Niederwartha Elbe bridge. Access equipment from our Wagert rental station in Dresden was also used during the extensive inspection work on the 366-metre-long cable-stayed bridge. Our L 450 A lorry-mounted working platform was a key component in the inspection of the 36 load-bearing steel cables.
Like any civil engineering structure, the Niederwartha Elbe Bridge near Dresden, which was completed in 2011, has to be inspected regularly to check its condition. During the current main inspection, all parts of the structure were inspected. While the concrete inspection at the pylon tips was carried out by specialised industrial climbers, another inspection team focused on the 36 steel cables from which the deck slab is suspended.
The detailed inspection of the cables required the use of our lorry-mounted work platform. The machine brought the inspection personnel safely to the required working height of around 50 metres.
The crucial part of this inspection was the support provided by a robot, which removed the 15 cm thick steel cables. This robot, together with the equipment, was safely transported to the cable strands in the work basket of our lorry platform. From there, the device was able to start its work. As Holger Wohsmann from the State Office for Road Construction and Transport (Meißen branch) explained in the article, the robot generates a magnetic field to check whether the steel cables have any faults that require a reaction.
Our modern Wagert height access technology enabled the inspectors to position the robot precisely on the various cables and carry out the entire inspection efficiently.
